I loved this book, although Miller's childhood was so lonely and neglected. You make me long to read it again, but I've lent my copy to my mother (which is a bit like consigning it to the glory-hole; goodness knows whether I'll be able to find it again!). I didn't see your twitter conversation, so I'm not sure if you've already covered this, but there is more about Christian Miller in Debs at War by Anne de Courcy, which I found fascinating.

Thank you for that lovely review. I must go and get a copy now!
