Well I don't know what you have already seen and/or liked, but here are some adaptations that I think are the bee's knees.

Babette's Feast
Brideshead Revisited (1980s version)
Mapp & Lucia (1980s version)
3 Days of the Condor (spy thriller)
A Room with a View (1980s version)
Howard's End
84, Charing Cross Road
The Forsyte Saga
Daniel Deronda
Persuasion (well any Jane Austen really)
The Talented Mr Ripley
The Flame Trees of Thika

It's not a literary adaptation, but the scripts are so good it might as well be, is the original Upstairs, Downstairs. Plots, themes, and characters are all given enough space to develop over the course of 6 or so series of the show.

Thanks Thomas - I love the 80s Brideshead, and the Forster adaptations but some of the others I haven't seen. I've never seen Upstairs Downstairs either and I have to confess it would never have occurred to me to give it a go. I shall have to look it up. Thanks again.
